지난 8일부터 15일까지 조형관 2층에서 실내디자인과 4학년 학생들의 졸업 작품 전시회가 열렸다. 세 전시실로 나누어 전시된 이번 전시에서는 총 40여점의 작품이 전시되었다. 환경디자인부터 인테리어 디자인까지, 실내디자인의 각 분야를 총 망라한 이번 전시에서는 100:1이상으로 축소되어 만들어진 환경 목업 작품 등 상당히 정교한 작업이 선보여 보는 이의 눈을 사로잡았다.
다른 디자인 분야 중 특히 인간의 삶에 대한 총체적인 배려와 관심을 요구하는 실내 디자인제품이라 그런지 우리 실 생활에서 볼 수 있었던 작은 습관과 편의를 배려한 디자인을 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있었다. [실내디자인]이라 하여 건축물 내의 가구 디자인에 한정되어 생각했던 필자의 좁은 소견과는 달리 전시품은 하나의 조형물을 연상시키는 추상적 선과 면과 공간의 만남을 볼 수 있었다.
이제 실내디자인과 40여명의 학생은 졸업전시를 마지막으로 4년간의 실내 디자인과 에서의 학업을 정리해야 한다. 지금은 비록 축소시킨 목업 작품 이지만, 이제 사회로 나아가는 그들이 졸업 작품과 같은, 아니 그보다 더 멋진 환경디자인을 1:1 실재 환경 작품으로 보여주길 기대해본다.
