본교 김개천 교수(실내디자인학과)와 변추석 교수(시각디자인학과)가 공동으로 진행한 동부건설 주택문화관의 디자인이 세계적 권위의 ‘2009 레드닷 디자인 어워드(Red Dot Design Award)를 수상하였다.
본교와 산학협력으로 완성된 동부건설의 주택문화관은 단일 건축으로는 국내 최초로 세계 최고 권위의 ‘2009 레드닷 디자인 어워드(Red Dot Design Award)에서 수상하였다. 국내에서 산업디자인을 비롯한 기타 디자인 계열에서 Red Dot Design Award를 수상한 적은 있었으나, 단일 건축물이 ‘Red Dot Design Award’를 수상한 것은 이번 동부건설의 센트레빌 주택전시관이 처음이다.
동부센트레빌 주택문화관은 동부건설의 비움이라는 기업 디자인 개념에 담백한 현대적인 동양미를 구현하였다. 전체적으로는 선인 동시에 면의 형식으로 빛도 형태도 소리도 없는 듯한 백색의 고정된 매스(Mass)이나 시시각각 변화하는 형식이 되어 정적이면서 역동적인 건축미를 구현한 것이 특징이다. 이런, 미래지향적이면서도 한국적인 디자인이 세계적으로 높게 평가 받았다.
특히 센트레빌 주택문화관은 지난 해 한국 디자인 진흥원이 주관하는 우수디자인 인증을 받은 데 이어 이번에 권위 있는 국제 디자인 공모전에서 또, 한번 수상함으로써 국민대학교의 디자인 능력이 세계적 수준임을 다시 한번 인정받게 되었다.
