[아트홀릭] 뭘 망설이나 / 최영(대학원 미술학과 박사과정 15)

왼쪽은 손의 움직임을 느린 셔터속도로 잡아낸 듯 흐릿하고 오른쪽은 또렷하다. 사진인지 회화인지 구분이 가지 않을 정도로 정밀하다. 국민대학교 서양화과 박사 과정에 재학중인 최영 작가는 좌우 안구 사이에서 이뤄지는 굴절, 즉 ‘양안 시차’를 이용한 작품들로 주목 받아왔다. ‘망막에 비친 그림(2010)’, ‘두 눈으로 본 그림(2012~2014)’, ‘안구 조작의 기술(2015)’ 등 그간 전시 이력들이 보여주듯, 작가는 회화의 근본인 ‘보다(See)’의 고민을 신작에서도 이어가고 있다. 안개가 지욱한 공항이나, 해무 가득한 바다에 떠 있는 배 등을 시각적으로 흐릿하게 표현하면서, 무언가 떠난 뒤 찾아오는 허탈함과 불안한 심리들을 내포하기도 했다.
최영, 김희연, 이동철 젊은작가 3인의 기획전이 10일부터 29일까지 아트팩토리(종로구 통의동)에서 열린다. ‘나는 우리, 우리가 그리는 안식처’라는 전시명으로 회화 작품들을 선보인다.
