한국쉘석유주식회사, 자동차공학과 KORA팀에 미화 50,000달러 기부

지난 4일 본부관 203호에서 한국쉘석유주식회사와 쉘퍼시픽엔터프라이시스(주)가 본교 자동차공학과 KOOKMIN RACING Team(KORA)의 'Shell Eco Marathon Asia 2013' 참가지원금으로 미화 50,000달러를 기부하는 행사가 진행되었다.
본 대회 출전을 위해 KORA팀은 한국윤활학회에서 추천받은 국내 3개 대학과 함께 차량설계 과정 및 제작계획, 제작 비용 등에 대한 프리젠테이션을 진행한 결과, 최종 참가자격과 함께 특전으로 차량 제작비 및 경비(50,000달러)를 지원받게 되었다.
Shell Eco Marathon Asia 대회는 국제적 정유 회사인 Shell이 주최하는 대학생들의 자작자동차 대회로써, 크게 Proto type과 Urban Concept Type 부문으로 나뉘며 다시 각 부분의 사용하는 에너지(Gasoline, Diesel, battery)별로 나뉜다. Proto Type은 저연비자동차인 Mileage Type의 분야이며, Urban Concept Type은 실제 상용차의 Concept car를 제작하는 분야이다.
올해 대회는 7월 4일부터 7월 7일까지 말레이시아의 쿠알라룸프에 있는 F1 Sepang International Circuit에서 열릴 예정이며, 아시아 전역에서 150개 대학이 참여, 수상자에게는 각 부분별로 1위 2,000달러, 2위 1,000달러의 상금이 주어진다. 본 대회 첫 출전을 앞두고 KORA의 최웅철 담당 교수는 “학생들이 본 대회를 위해 수 개월 연구실에서 자작차 개발에 몰두했기 때문에 좋은 결과가 있으리라 확신한다.”며 자신감을 나타냈다.
