국민대, ‘탄소흡수원 특성화 대학원’ 선정

국민대학교(총장 임홍재)가 산림청에서 지정하는 탄소흡수원 특성화 대학원에 선정됐다.
탄소흡수원 특성화 대학원은 ‘탄소흡수원 유지 및 증진에 관한 법률’ 제30조에 의거하여 산림청장이 선발·지정한다. 본 특성화 대학원은 산림을 활용하여 기후변화 및 탄소중립에 대응하기 위해 체계적인 교육프로그램을 마련하고, 석박사 등 전문인력을 양성하는 곳으로 기존에 서울대학교와 고려대학교가 지정되어 운영되었다.
이번 사업은 일반대학원 기후기술융합학과(주임교수 이창배)를 중심으로 산림환경시스템학과, 임산생명공학과, 기계공학부, 행정학과 및 교양대학이 함께 참여하여, 산림탄소흡수원 국제 공동연구 수행, 산림탄소 산정·보고·검증(MRV) 연구 및 관련 분야 전문인력을 5년(2023~2027) 동안 산림청의 지원을 받아 양성하게 된다.
본 사업의 연구책임자인 기후기술융합학과 이창배 교수는 “기후위기 시대에 2030 국가 온실가스 감축목표의 11%에 기여하는 산림탄소흡수원의 중요성과 관련 전문인력을 양성하는 것은 매우 시급한 사안 중 하나이며, 전지구적 기후위기를 극복하는데 기여할 수 있는 혁신적이고 통합적인 사고를 갖춘 전문인재를 키워가겠다”고 밝혔다.
