전영우(산림환경시스템학과) 교수 ‘생명의 숲 국민운동’ 이사장 선임

본교 전영우 교수(산림환경시스템학과)가 우리나라의 대표적인 산림환경분야 NGO인 ‘생명의 숲 국민운동’의 이사장으로 선출되었다. 임기는 2012년 3월부터 2015년 2월까지 3년이다.
생명의 숲 국민운동은 1997년 IMF 사태를 맞으면서 실직한 사람들을 위한 대책으로 산림청과 기업과 시민사회단체가 주도하여 1998년 3월에 결성한 단체이다. 전영우 교수는 이 단체 결성의 초기부터 깊이 관여하여 왔으며 학교숲 운동 등 오랜 동안 운영에 참여해왔다.
생명의 숲 국민운동은 전영우 교수의 취임으로 숲을 가꿈으로써 국토보전 및 산림환경개선에 기여하고, 참여 및 자원봉사의 기회를 부여하며 국토, 자연, 산림을 사랑하는 정신을 함양하여 국가 발전을 위한 국민적 역량을 결집하는 계기를 마련하고, 나아가 산림 선진국의 초석을 마련하는데 더욱 매진할 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
