국민대 솔라카팀 KUST팀 모형 태양광 자동차 경진대회 금상, 동상 수상

2012년 10월 6일 한국 공학인증교육원에서 주최를 하고 한화케미칼 후원을 하는 제 4회 모형 솔라카 경진대회가 여의도 한강 Solar 파크에서 열렸다. 본 대회는 2008년부터 한국공학교육인증원 주최로 실시되었으며, 본 대회에서는 직접 Solar cell을 각 팀들에게 제공하였으며, 주어진 솔라셀로 차량을 알맞게 제작해 길이 30M, 폭 3M 이내의 곡선주로와 경사가 포함된 직선주로를 랩타임제로 주행하며, 주행 성능외에도 공기역학적 디자인 부문을 심사하는 등 난이도가 높은 대회이다.
이 날 전국의 대학 40여개 팀이 참가해 개성있는 모형 솔라카들을 보여준 가운데, 국민대학교 솔라카팀 KUST(Kookmin Univ. Solar-Car Team, 지도교수: 기계시스템공학부 신동훈)는 4개의 팀으로 참전하여 그 중 2팀(Kookmin Motors, KA.4)이 금상과 동상을 받는 쾌거를 이루었다.
이두희 팀장이 이끈 Kookmin Motors는 공기저항을 최소화하고 솔라셀의 효율을 최대화하여 참가 팀들 중 가장 빠른 속도를 보유하였으나, Finish line 근처에서 안정적인 주행을 펼치지 못해 아쉽게 동상을 입상하게 되었다. 금상을 입상하게 된 최건우 팀장이 이끈 KA.4는 다른 팀들과 속도는 비슷하였으나, 독특한 디자인(솔라셀의 각도를 조절)과 곡선주행 성능이 우수한 전륜조향을 바탕으로 안정적 주행을 펼쳐 금상을 수상하게 되었다.
2008년부터 실시된 이 대회는 제 1회부터 제 3회까지 국민대학교 학생들이 대상 금상 등을 수상해 국민대학교의 저력을 크게 알린 바 있다.
