김 천 교수 TGEO 국제우정상 수상 / 삼림과학대학

‘89년부터 삼림과학대학에 재직하면서 2007년 이후 일반대학원 응용정보기술학과도 담당한 김 천 교수는 지난 6월 22일-24일 대만 국립연합대학(NUU) 주최의 2014년 지구관측및사회충격 국제학술대회(ICEO-SI2014)에서, 대만지구관측학회(TGEO)가 수여하는 최고학술상 “국제우정상(International Friendship Award of Excellence)”을 받았다.
아시아 원격탐사학(Remote Sensing)과 우주산업에 이바지한 공로로, 2004년 태국왕실의 Boon Indrambrya Medal과 2009년 중공 중국과학원(Chinese Academy of Science)의 공적상(Achievement Award)을 이미 받은 바 있는 김 천 교수는 세 번째 국제학술상을 수상하는 영예를 갖게 됨과 동시에 본교의 위상을 높였다.
이번에 세 번째 국제학술상인 국제우정상을 받게 된 연유는 사단법인 대한원격탐사학회 회장을 역임한 김 천 교수가 2010년 대만지구관측학회(TGEO) 창립 전부터 TGEO의 설립목적과 대만통합지구관측시스템 “TIEOS” 구상에 공헌하였고, 동아시아환경감시우주위원회(EMSEA) 공동의장으로서 2011년부터 매년 개최되는 ICEO-SI 국제학술대회에 자문을 맡고 있으면서 발전에 기여하였기 때문이다.
올해 최초로 국제우정상을 수여한 TGEO는 대만 과학자와 관련 공무원들에 의해 구성되어 있으며, 지구온난화로 인한 기후변화 문제를 지구촌의 일원으로서 해결하기 위해 자연재해 예방과 기후변화 대처에 대한 통신 플랫폼 “TIEOS”를 제공하고, 나아가 NASA와 ESA가 주축인 범지구관찰시스템 “GEOSS”의 중요한 데이터베이스 역할을 담당하고 있다.
