쌍둥이연구학회 James Shields (제임스 쉴즈)상 수상/ 허윤미(교양대학) 교수

우리 대학 교양 대학의 허윤미 교수가 쌍둥이 연구 분야 최고 영예에 해당하는 James Shields (제임스 쉴즈)상을 수상했다.
쌍둥이 연구는 일란성 쌍둥이와 이란성 쌍둥이들을 대상으로 하여, 인간 행동 및 질환에 미치는 유전의 영향을 발견하고 유전적 요인들이 환경과 상호작용하는 양상을 연구하는 분야로, 유럽에서 태동하여 주로 미국과 유럽지역에서 번영해왔으며 정신건강, 심리학, 행동유전학, 의학 등에 많은 기여를 한 학문으로 알려져 있다.
허윤미 교수는 미국의 미네소타 대학에서 행동유전학자로서 쌍둥이 연구에 대한 수련을 받은 후, 한국으로 건너와 한국인 쌍둥이들을 대상으로 연구하였을 뿐 아니라, 아시아 지역에 쌍둥이 연구를 확산시키는 데 크게 기여해 왔다. 또한, 아프리카의 극빈지역을 찾아가 쌍둥이 연구를 수행하여, 매우 열악한 지역에서 성장하는 아동 및 청소년들의 심리적 특성에도 유전요인이 영향을 미친다는 것을 발견한 공로를 인정받아 2023년 국제쌍둥이연구 학술대회 (Twins Congress 2023, Budapest, Hungary)에서 최고 명예 대상인 James Shields 상을 받게 됐다.
