유네스코 세종대왕 문해상(King Sejong Literacy Prize) 심사위원 위촉 / 이동은(한국어문학부) 교수

우리 대학 한국어문학부 이동은 교수가 ‘유네스코 세종대왕 문해상’ 심사위원에 위촉되었다. 유네스코에서는 매년 국제사회의 문맹 퇴치에 기여한 개인 및 단체를 선정하여 문해상을 시상해 왔는데, 1989년 우리 정부의 요청으로 세종대왕 문해상이 제정되었다. 이후, 특히 개발도상국의 모국어 발전과 보급에 기여한 단체와 개인을 수상자로 배출하고 있다.
훈민정음 창제의 숭고한 뜻과 애민정신을 기리는 세종대왕 문해상은 이러한 정신을 실현하여 모국어의 교육과 보전에 기여한 3곳을 추천받아, 유네스코 사무총장이 위촉한 심사위원단의 심사를 거쳐 사무총장이 최종적으로 선정하게 된다. 그리고 9월 8일 세계 문해의 날을 기념하여 유네스코 본부에서 최종 수상자에게 시상한다.
한편 유네스코 세종대왕 문해상의 정관에 따르면, 심사위원단은 성별·지역별 안배를 고려한 문해 분야 전문가 5인으로 구성되며, 유네스코 사무총장이 임명한다. 심사위원단이 사용하는 언어는 영어와 프랑스어이며, 임기는 2년이다. 이에 이동은 교수는 2023년부터 2024년까지 심사위원으로 활동하게 된다.
