우리 대학 건설시스템공학부 차원준 동문이 영국 버밍엄시에 위치한 University of Birmingham 토목공학과의 조교수(지반공학전공)로 임용되었다.
차원준 동문은 2007년 본교 건설시스템공학부에 입학하여 졸업후 본교 대학원에서 적외선 영상을 이용하여 사면 구조물의 취약성을 평가하는 연구(지도교수: 김현기)를 통해 석사학위를 취득하였고, 사우디아라비아의 KAUST 대학교에 박사과정으로 진학하여 기후 변화 및 자연 재해와 관련하여 토양의 장기 거동에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 작년에 박사학위를 취득하고 미국 Berkeley 대학교의 Smart Infrastructure 연구센터에서 박사후 연구원으로 재직하면서 스마트 센서와 로봇 등을 활용하여 노후된 사회 기반시설을 모니터링하고 유지관리하는 모델을 개발하는 연구를 진행하였다.
University of Birmingham은 1825년에 개교하여 200년 가까운 전통을 가지고 있으며 현재 약 36000명 정도의 재학생이 수학하고 있어 영국에서 7번째로 큰 대학교이고, 영국 연구 대학들의 모임인 러셀 그룹과 국제 대학 연구네트워크의 창립 맴버인 세계적인 명문 대학교이다. QS 세계 대학 순위(2019)에 따르면 영국에서 14위, 세계에서 79위를 차지했고 2013년 타임즈 고등 교육상 (Times Higher Education Awards)에서 '2014년의 대학'으로 선정된 바 있다.
