상생 전략으로 평가받아
수도권 신도시에서 명문대학교 캠퍼스 유치가 해당 지자체와 대학간 '윈윈(Win-win)' 전략으로 부상하고 있다. 캠퍼스 유치는 신도시에 교육 호재라는 활력소가 되고 대학에게는 넓고 비교적 저렴한 부지를 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 상생 전략으로 평가 받는다. 특히 최근에는 '지방 분교'가 아닌 '캠퍼스 확장'의 개념으로 지역 캠퍼스를 운영하면서 지역에서도 더 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.
6일 업계에 따르면 시흥시는 배곧신신도시에 서울대를 유치했으며, 남양주시는 서강대를, 김포시는 국민대를 신도시에 유치하는 방안을 논의 또는 추진하고 있다.
■신도시.대학 '윈윈'… 지역 캠퍼스 운영 모델 바꾸며 효과도 커져
신도시와 대학의 '캠퍼스 콜라보레이션(협업)'는 지역과 대학 모두가 만족할 만한 상생 전략으로 꼽힌다. 업계 관계자는 "'인 서울' 대학 입장에서 좁고 비싼 서울 땅보다 상대적으로 저렴하고 혜택도 많은 수도권 신도시로 눈을 돌리게 된다"며 "신도시도 상대적으로 교육 호재가 부족하기 때문에 서울 소재 대학교의 캠퍼스 유치를 원하고 있다"고 말했다.
실제로 지난 4월 국민대와 양해각서(MOU)를 체결한 김포시는 '4년제 대학 유치'가 숙원사업이었다. 이번 MOU 체결로 국민대는 김포캠퍼스 건립기획단을 발족해 풍무역세권 개발사업지구 내에 캠퍼스 조성에 대한 구체적인 계획을 수립하게 된다.
