“우리 손으로 학교 주변 담장 가꿔요”/ 국민대 자연과학대학 동아리 '걸음'

고성 거성초교(교장 김영록) 학생들이 여름방학을 이용해 학교 주변의 낡고 더러운 담장을 자신들의 손으로 동심이 가득한 맑고 밝은 담장으로 변모시켜 눈길을 끌고 있다. 거성초교 재학생 20명은 지난 1일부터 5일까지 국민대 자연과학대 동아리 ‘걸음’의 멘토로 마련된 지식봉사 캠프에 참가해 학교 담장 벽화그리기를 진행했다.
거성초교는 몇 년 전부터 유치원과 체육관을 연결하는 뒤편 100여m 구간의 환경 개선 방안을 놓고 고민해 왔다. 그러던 중 한국장학재단 사업 지원을 받은 국민대 자연과학대 동아리 ‘걸음’이 여름방학 지식봉사 캠프의 일환으로 벽화그리기 프로그램을 제안하며 기회를 갖게 됐다. 캠프에 참가한 학생들은 대학생들과 함께 담장에 꽃,나무,집,물고기 등 다양한 캐릭터 밑그림을 그린 뒤 색을 입히고,캐릭터 마다 인성을 함양시킬 수 있는 이야기까지 담아내며 담장에 생기를 불어 넣었다.
김영록 교장은 “초등학생들이 한마음으로 이뤄낸 이번 담장 벽화가 학교 경관을 더욱 밝게 만들고 학생들에게 활기를 불어 넣었으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
