문창로 교수 논문서 밝혀
언론인으로 한국 고대사 연구에 큰 족적을 남긴 후석 천관우(1925∼1991)를 조명한 학술대회가 열렸다. 그는 동아일보 편집국장 등을 지냈으며 언론 자유와 민주화 운동에 헌신했다. 기자로서 틈틈이 한국사를 연구해 ‘한국사의 재발견’ ‘고조선사·삼한사연구’ 등 명저를 남겼다. 문창로 국민대 교수는 11일 백산학회 학술대회에서 발표한 ‘후석 천관우의 한국 고대사 연구’ 논문에서 “가야사를 연결고리로 한 고대 한일 관계사 연구에 획기적인 신설(新說)을 제시했다”고 썼다. 신라나 백제에 비해 역사 기록이 절대적으로 부족한 가야사를 복원하는 데 크게 기여했다는 평가다. 천관우는 일본서기에서 임나일본부 관련 기록의 주체가 왜가 아닌 백제라는 의견을 제기하며 새로운 역사 해석을 시도했다.
